SUPERTITIOUS habits are common; start at the sight of a black cat, touch wood, and avoid walking under ladders?
Supertitions seems irrational, but they pervade our human life.
According to some scientist, like DR. KEVIN FOSTER, form HARVARD UNIVERSITY and DR. HANNA KOKO, from the UNIVERSITY of HELSINKI, suggest the possibility of a gene for supertition is that, far from being barmy, being supertitious is actually very normal.
Foster says, ” All animals will display behaviors that imply a causal relationship that isn’t there.” —— take pigeons; clap your hands, and they take flight. Pegions are smart to tell a gunshot , from s handclap, yet, they react supertitiously. Better safe than sorry.”
Animals have a gene for supertition and behaved supertitously, they were more likely to be successful and pass their genes to future generations. Being supertitious make sense in an uncertain world. Species that are supertitious — reacting as if their a predator around when a predator is extinct, say —- will do better than less cautious creatures.
This is why humans are also supertitious, Humans are heavily affected by cultures as well as evolution. Cutural effects are shaped by an evolved that are ready associate events, so readily that individuals often makes mistakes. In primative societies, that might mean doing a raindance. Modern societies are equally supertitious. Like alternative medicines; there’s little evidence it works , yet believing that it does may well help someone get better.
humans are born with brain designed to make sense of the world that sometimes lead to beliefs that go beyond any natural explanation. We are born trying to understand the world and this ability to make sense of our surroundings is the same mechanism responsible for supertitious beliefs.
So if our horoscope says the planets are in the correct alignment for new revelations, we might be inclined to believed . We lived in the world full of random events that we cannot control, we used are skills to make sense of our lives by acting as every object and every event really has a purpose, Still, being SUPERTITIOUS is not a bad thing at all. it may help us to propogate our decisions...
