What A Bad Night It Was.....

Yesterday (November 28, 2008), I had misfortune of falling victim to one of the many misdemeanors being commented in Riyadh.Last night I was in my shopping spare here in one of my favorite place to shop (Batha), this is the common place for Filipinos who work in Riyadh, a hung out place for expatriates like me.

I was quite disappointed with the disinterest conveyed by the sales representatives in a showroom but nonetheless I settled with two pairs of shoes A hesitant sales representative fidgeted and fumble before I requested that he hurry up. Being slightly paranoid, I checked my SR200(200 Riyals) note twice before I handed it to the sales representative."200riyals" I announced confidently, waiting anxiously for my SR50 change. The sales representative fumble with the cashier, and turned back to me , insisting I had handed him a SR100 note.

I initially dismissed it a mistake, but in a second, I realized I had been fooled. The sales representative could suddenly speak only Arabic. and failed to communicate with us. Further more his superior , who were called in to resolved the matter simply checked the cashier register and failed to check him. In fact, they willingly allowed him to roam the store, providing him to several opportunities to dispose of, or hide, the money. As he grew more confident, he even refuse to returned the SR100 he admitted i had paid. I am quite charitable person, but dishonesty of this kind bothers me on several levels, and worries me. I know I am not the only person this guy fooled, I hope that this guy be caught...
